FunTreks Off Road Jeep trail guide Books

GPS Resources

In order to get the most out of the FunTreks Guidebooks GPS Data Card we've created these cards to be compatible with several GPS receivers. For a current list of supported devices, please see the main Data Card page.
The information contained on this card can still be used for other GPS device's that are not supported by FunTreks. Most GPS manufacturers include software with their devices that will install tracks, waypoints, and/or points of interest into the GPS device. For specific instructions and details regarding the install process, please consult your GPS device's user guide.

Garmin Units

Custom Points of Interest (POI)
The FunTreks data card includes custom Points of Interest which most Garmin GPS receivers (that feature an SD/Micro-SD card slot) support. Once the card has been inserted, some receivers will asked to import the POIs from the FunTreks data card. We recommend not importing the POIs to the receiver due to limited amount of internal memory they have.

Accessing the POIs on (most) Garmin Units
-Insert the data card & power the unit on
-Once at the main screen, choose ‘Where To”
-Choose Extras
-Nuvi Units*: Choose Custom POIs
-Nuvi Units*: All POIs will be listed
-Oregon Units: All POIs will be listed
*These steps were verified on a Nuvi 760, Montana 600, and Oregon 450t.

Tracks
Tracks directly from the FunTreks data card work on Garmin GPS Oregon and Montana receivers. To use the tracks on these units, simply insert the card and power the unit on. Choose “Where To” then “Tracks” to find a complete list of tracks from the data card. Note: Waypoints that correspond with the guidebooks can also be seen.
To use tracks on other Garmin GPS units without an SD/Micro-SD card slot, use Mapsource or Basecamp software to install the tracklogs and wayopints. Note: Some units have a 20 track limit. We recommend transferring the tracks for the trails you will need for a specific trip. Consult the MapSource or Basecamp software user manuals for more information on this process.

Example of FunTreks data used in Google Earth.

FunTreks Data Cards include GPS Exchange Format (GPX) files that will work with nearly every GPS unit and computer program that supports GPS files. FunTreks only supports Garmin Oregon 450t for direct data card usage and does not support the data being used on other programs and receivers.

Other non supported uses for GPX data:
Google Earth
DeLorme Topo North America
National Geographic TOPO!
Garmin Basecamp & MapSource
Topografix GPX Resources Page
Many handheld GPS units
Consult the user manual and help information on how to use GPX data with these applications.
